Me and my Austrian friend (Girl) we were thinking about traveling to Asia to counties as India, Laos, Thailand, Tibet, Cambodia and China. Not necessarily the whole countries but a good part of them if possible. We are planning to backpack with Bicycles and have like a small carriage in the back for our luggages etc. have a solar panel to charge battery for cell phones, laptops Etc. we don't mind staying in tents but I would be good to stay in a hostel or hotel every two days for a shower. So, since we don't have to worry about accommodation, how much do u think would be enough for a 2-3 months trip? Would 3000⬠be enough? Or maybe more?

Answer
Forget the backpacking with bicycles idea along with your solar panel and tent. Asia is not Austria, it is big and it is hot so you need to go by public transport to get to see any of the countries in that time frame. Hotel or backpacker accommodation is cheap and safe.

Do a bit more research on where you want to go and read some of the backpacker travel blogs. I would think that you need to allow at least AUD50 per day for backpacking plus airfares and insurances.

Have a lot of fun together planning your trip.

What do I need to know to go backpacking in New Zealand for 7 months?

Me and my boyfriend want to go backpacking before heading to college, but its my first time. It isn't his first time, but we both haven't been out of state yet. His mom will be with us for the first part. I was just wondering if maybe anybody had any useful information such as a certain airline that they prefer and maybe if they know what parts of New Zealand they prefer. Any information would be appreciated. Anything about the people or culture there, flights, gear, foods, places, jobs, etc.. Also would it be a good idea to buy snow shoes or clamps?

Answer
Flights can be very expensive in NZ, especially from smaller centers. If you are travelling for that lenght of time it might be worth buying a van or something (you can often see them for sale at hostels/backpackers accommodation notice boards).

There are buses that can get you around which is probably the best and cheapest way to get about (but you can pick up some cheap flights now and then. The main airline in NZ is Air new zealand. (www.airnewzealand.co.nz) There is jet star which do some of the big city routes and some smaller airlines that some regional ones ie. air2there,

It also depends on what you like doing. Obviously you are into snow. I personally don't know much about skiing, apart from knowing the names of some skifields. The vast majority are in the South Island...it is a popular sport here.

For jobs you need to make sure you have the right visa, otherwise you will strike issues
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ You will often find jobs in fruit picking, vineyard work as well as cafes, pubs etc.

For places I prefer, well I am a South Island girl, so thats what I prefer. Look at the website below for some ideas and things that kiwis love to do. There are lots of activities and I think many are rated as well.
