I Go back to school in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna be a sophomore in High school. I already have my backpack btw. ( My mom is only spending about 150 - 200 $ and I will buy the rest if I spend it all which I probably will )
-what type of clothes should I be getting? ( we can wear anything but the tops have to have sleeves and the shorts have to be finger tips length)
-beauty essentials (makeup, perfume, hair products etc. )
-what type of shoes
-school supplies
-any thing else I would need to get for back to school
thanks!!

School supplies:
Binders and tons of paper. I buy folders and notebooks and put them in the binders so I can use them for each class. For your locker, the only thing I would recommend is one of those little shelf things because it adds more room and trust me, stacking books on each other becomes a nightmare. Tons of pencils and flashcards.

Beauty:
Whatever you wear regularly or are comfortable wearing. I usually just wear concealer, foundation, blush and bronzer, and then a bit of eye makeup. I would keep a deodorant and some kind of body mist in your locker as well. And keep tons of hair ties with you. Chapstick also.

Clothes:
Also, whatever you are comfortable in and like. I would recommend focusing primarily on finding some good bottoms; jeans, shorts, and leggings, because every time I go shopping I buy tons of shirts and things and then I get home and realise I barely have enough jeans to get me through the week. Since it's your sophomore year, I'm guessing you will be driving soon (congrats if you are!!!) so I would find out where kids park for your school because at mine, we have to walk a fair distance; this in mind, depending on where you live, a warm coat, gloves, and hat, rain boots or some sort of weather boots and an umbrella. Other than that, just go nuts.
Hope this helps, have fun shopping!

A complete book for fashion sewing?

Anna R

Okay, so I'm looking for a book that covers everything such as: pattern making, fabrics, stitching, tailoring ect. I can't seem to find 1 book with everything... maybe there is no such thing? Any suggestions?

Answer
If it's going to have any depth at all, you're not going to find a single book covering everything. Two of the leading patternmaking textbooks, for instance, weigh in at 4 and 5 lbs. My personal sewing library, which is by no means complete or even comprehensive in its coverage is about 60 linear feet of books.

What do you want to tackle first? (I'd suggest basic sewing machine operation, basic fabrics, cutting and sewing operations as a foundation for most.) At what level do you want to operate? (thinking about being a fashion design or similar student; hobbiest; occasional thread bender...? What experience do you have? What do you want to sew? Kites or bustiers? backpacks or ballgowns? kids' clothes or mens' suits?

I'd probably either start you with one of the KwikSew books and something like Crawford's Guide to Fashion Sewing, or Readers Digest Complete Book of Sewing -- but it really all depends on your interests.

Some suggestions here, not all of which I agree with:

(you may have to join the creativemachine group to get to the files section)
