Have you ever experienced a school-shooting?

Peter L

Last year, on December 12th, my school (Springfield Township School District, PA) had a school shooting. A junior, Shane Halligan, brought in an AK-47, unreal I know, and threatened students and then committed suicide. Shane was sort of a quiet guy, and you can read up on him on news websites if you do well enough research, but he affected our school in a horribly negative way. School security is tighter, there are occasional backpack searches (which I can deal with), and people are somewhat paranoid - especially with the ONE-year anniversary approaching.

I'm just curious to know if others are going through similar events as I am. Please feel free to share your feelings on my occurence, yours, or even just school shootings in general.

Star this question for others to see if you like it.

Thanks, Peter

I went to a private school from fourth grade on. I never experienced a school shooting. We didn't have any security, but kids still brought knives to school for self-defense. To my knowledge there was never any real violence going on there at all. On the flip side, there is a lot more TLC in a private school than in public from teachers, staff, counselors, other students etc. At least, this was my experience comparing it to my previous education in public school. There kids could get away with almost anything and there was no detention. Basically they just make you stand next to a wall at recess or yell at you. No real justice.

Maybe thats the problem. Its never the bullies that do this sort of thing its those who feel unjustly ridiculed. I think schools need their own internal justice system to a degree so kids who are picked on can at least have some assurance that it won't continue. The world is full of jerks even as kids. It can really get hurt seeing d-bags get away with every fool thing and having no power to fight back.

I really feel for your school, I couldn't imagine the heartache. But in a way I also feel great pity for those who feel they have no recourse but to blast away their foes and even their very life.

I remember this one guy on the playground who would beat me up and then one day I just got sick of it and though I wasn't a fighter, I threw some sand in his eyes and blinded him long enough to kick him in the face. Like I said, no punishment in that 4th grade school system (before I switched) so what did I have to lose? Well he asked me, "Why'd you do that?" so I said, "Because duh, you are always beating me up" boy was he stupid, but eventually we called a truce and became really good friends. Weirdest thing ever, but it taught me that life is always full of opportunities for forgiveness and making friends out of your enemies instead of mince-meat.

Also noted an earlier answer:
"Wow that must of been a frightening experience for you. Well unfortunatly i never experienced one because my school was very safe. It was in a safe enviornment and we had body guards around the school grounds." Shouldn't one be FORTUNATE that they never had a school shooting? Seriously people... Think about what you are typing.

Thinking of name of book i read in middle school?

I read this book in middle school and bits and pieces are stuck in my head
I remember the book was a small series. There was a hippie as a teacher.....his name was mr green or something.
Theres a bully at his school and he made a website online to talk about him.....he tried to get proof that he was a bully so he put a camera in his backpack to record him. His name could have been nowlin. I remember that he climbed on top of his school to let out flyers about his website.
Thats all i remember :( please help

The Shredderman books by Wendelin Van Draanen
"Alvin Bixby: Hulking, knuckles of steel, hideous breath, foul temper. Kids call him: Bubba.

Nolan Byrd: Puny, power walker, math genius, canât keep shoes tied. Kids call him: Nerd.

Bubba has been the bane of Nolanâs existence for five long years. So when Mr. Green asks the class to become reporters, Nolan decides heâll write an exposéâon Bubba. He doesnât want to sign his name to it (thatâd be suicidal), so Nolan creates a secret identity for himselfâon the Internet. He launches Shredderman.com as a place where truth and justice prevailâand bullies get whatâs coming to them."
