i never used a backpack in highschool and i figured i owuld need one for college because i don't feel like carrying around a huge purse, but ppl are tellng me all these thins like girls don't ever carry them and i will stand out. okay since when is it uncool for a backpack and also for a girl to have one?!?!
Answer
Girls in college do carry backpacks so don't feel awkward or uncool about it. Messenger bags are popular and convenient, but they will affect your posture. It's your choice though.
Don't bring your books to class unless the professor actually requires you to do so. This is pretty unlikely though.
You might also want to see how it goes with bringing your laptop. Many students get sick of bringing them to class. Plus, some professors even have rules against using them during class time. Printed notes and pens works fine. Plus, without a laptop, you won't have to worry about it getting stolen, running out of batteries, finding a plug, etc.
But, if you are set on bringing your laptop, look for a padded bag that you can carry on your back. Find a bag with several inside pockets to carry things like pens, makeup, keys, cell phones, wallets, etc. That way you don't have to carry an additional purse.
Good Luck! :]
Enjoy your day!~

college backpack for girls?
I'm going to be a freshman @ William&Mary and I don't know what kind of bag to buy.
It seems that types of college bags(females) differ from school to school, but the general feeling I get from the research is that most college girls carry around totebags.
Do college kids still carry around 198654 text books like highschool kids do? If that is the case, I see why a durable and expensive backpack might be a good investment (although they don't satisfy my appetite for fashion; ugh they're so bulky and ugly). I don't know if that is the case, then I'll probably get a good backpack, but if that is not how it is in colleges, I'm going to invest in a durable and fashionable tote bag.
If a tote bag is tolerable, what brands are durable and affordable?
How big should it be?
Answer
You should consider investing in a quality tote bag that will fit your laptop along with a notebook or two. If you buy one that's classic in style, you will be able to use it for years, maybe even after college. Also, it will dress up even the humblest of outfits. I am a college student, and I use a dark pink Kate Spade leather tote bag. It is without a doubt my favorite bag I've ever owned. I was hesitant to buy it at first because it was a bit pricey, but I've gotten more than my money's worth out of it. I use it every day, except when it rains or when I have to carry a lot of stuff. For that, I have a North Face backpack (the Jemma style in gray/pink). It's smaller and more feminine, and it doesn't have that bulky, utilitarian look that most backpacks have. It is padded very well in the shoulders and back, and I can carry a ton of books and feel practically nothing. I know North Face backpacks are more expensive than the JanSports that everyone seems to have, but it's a worthwhile investment because it will prevent back pain. Trust me.
Another important note about college - always keep a small umbrella in your backpack. You never know when there will be a freak thunderstorm when it's time to walk between class. I take it a step further - if there's heavy rain in the forecast, I carry a change of clothes with me. Nothing is worse than taking an exam in a bitterly cold air conditioned room while wearing soaking wet clothes. Not that I've ever had to do that...
