And how old are they? My son is 7 and so far I have just gotten him a Nintendo DS lite.
Answer
Our biggest gift this year is an Xbox 360 as well as five games, which is for the whole family.
I have 3 kids, Cole (10), Arianna (8), Riley (5), and Carson, our foster child (7)
Their big ticket gifts:
Cole-- Nintendo DS lite! :) Same thing, how cool
Arianna-- Child size acoustic guitar
Riley-- A really cool, realistic doll house that we ordered online. It has lights that turn on and off. I'm almost jealous! lol
Carson-- We had to think a lot about this gift. Carson is a great kid, and we really wanted to get him something special that he could take with him and cherish for the rest of his life. So.. After a ton of thought we bought him a backpack with a stuffed tiger and a baseball cap inside. That was his special present, but we also got him a few DS games as well.

Help dealing with kids?

In my house we have 2 toddlers that are about the same age. One is a foster child one is my birth son. My foster son has many of the typical issues for a child in foster care and will follow me constantly when I am home. We have tried quite a few things to make him comfortable with me leaving the room. Verbal que's that I will return, transition objects, distractions. They do not seem to be helping. Any other ideas on how we could help him out so that he is not throwing a fit when I need to go to another room or outside?
Answer
Give in for a while...take him with you.
You could also start to use your verbal cues to help him understand that you BOTH are leaving the room and now you BOTH are back.
Have you ever seen a mother carrying her child in a sling? Or maybe a backpack of some sort? Your foster child is looking for the same attachment.
He is only a toddler, while that is too big to carry around in a sling, it is not quite big enough to grasp very easily that things out of your sight will return.
You might also want to play "peek-a-boo." I know it sounds silly but it is a fun way for the child to begin to understand that things you don't see WILL come back. Start by hiding behind your hands and then hide under blankets. When things get really good you can hide in another room and let him find you.
Good luck and thanks for being such a concerned father. The world needs more men like you.
