heavy backpack problem?

dREam~

i have an extremely heavy backpack. its the kind that you use on both shoulders. anyway, i've already taken out everything i can but its still really heavy. does the backpack effect the weight? for example, if i got a messenger or a tote, would that be better? it also really hurts both of my shoulders and i play violin so i dont want to lose that ability. please help and give tips on the best type of backpack and what not.

Answer
the backpack might effect the weight, but really i believe it might be the straps of the backpack. i used to have a backpack with straps that were very thin and it dug into my shoulders when my backpack was heavy. i suggest getting a backpack with good support on the straps and lots of pockets (using many pockets/compartments helps distribute the weight of all of your books and such). the backpack i have now is great and its a Jansport "airlift" (it has super comfortable shoulder straps and it's still a good size backpack).

if you find that isn't comfortable either, i suggest a rolling backpack.
(by the way, i don't think a messenger bag or tote will be better because it puts more stress on one side of ur body and i don't think it has enough room)

Backpacking Through Europe, Backpack Suggestion?

Olivia T

I'm planning on going "backpacking through Europe" this summer. I say that in quotations because a lot of destinations I'm actually staying with family and friends. I'm planning on going to Ireland, England, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and France. I would only be staying in Hostels in Switzerland and England so I was really wanting a really nice traveling backpack that also works as a suitcase. I like the idea of http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BZLV22/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1MPSLFC7L5AFK because I like all the compartments but the backpack straps are not meant to be used for a long period of time.

If anyone from experience or just knows of a good backpack/suitcase that would be practical for my travel experience please let me know! It will be greatly appreciated!

Ps. My trip will probably last around a month

Thank you
For the most part other then a few plane trips I will be traveling around on train

Answer
The backpack/suitcase you linked to will be very difficult to carry. Either take a suitcase or a backpack. If you decide yo take a backpack buy it in a reputable store where you can try it on for comfort. But taking a small to medium suitcase is fine, even for staying in hostels - having a backpack is not mandatory!
