Personal Project Suggestions?

Bec

The new South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) includes a subject called personal project, where students have about 5 months to work on some kind of personal project. In the end we have to have something to show for it. Some other kids in my class are: restoring a car, organising a fundraiser, making a guitar, making a comic book, choreographing a dance, writing a novel, doing a study on forensic anthapology, making a photography album featuring photos which provoke emotion, e.t.c. You can basically do anything, and you are largely marked on what you have learnt from it. Even if you don't finish your project you can still achieve an A.

Ok, so I'm a dancer and am largely involved in musical theatre. I also am interested in travel, creative writing, writing for publication, fashion, design, international issues, photography, film, wars of the 20th century and nutrition. I also love planning things.

I had some ideas like:
choreographing a dance
making an itinerary for a European backpacking holiday
make an abstract movie featuring things that are important in my life
writing a novel
writing my ideal magazine (including all the adds and articals)

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Answer
Why not write a musical, using some of your favorite songs, or perhaps songs and dances through the ages? You'd need to do a lot for research and planning which would score you a lot of marks :)

Hope this helps :)

What is a good skateboarding sponsorship?

Tony

I want to get sponsored for skateboarding and I have been skating for like 1 and a half years. I am not tryin to go pro or anything I just want to get free stuff...(mainly a deck)
Just list some easy to get sponsors that give free stuff (DECKS).
I already know about blankdecks too.

Answer
Any sponsorship is good. You are definitely going about it wrong. Sponsors want something from those they sponsor, not just greedy kids. You need to tell potential sponsors what you will do for them, not the other way around. From time to time, I go through sponsorship apps and videos for my buddy's shop. The first question he asks is why do you wan to be sponsored. If something like I want free stuff is the answer, it is thrown away.

If and when you get sponsored, you will be required to do things for that sponsor, like attend a certain comps, demos fundraisers and other appearances. You will have to dress act and otherwise portray yourself in the image of your sponsor.

Your best bet is to check with some of the local shops talk to the owner or team manager. You will need to bring a sponsor me video.

Keep the video short, about 2 minutes of your best stuff. NO music. Limit titles to your name and maybe age.

With a shop sponsor, don't expect the moon. You will probably get a shop t-shirt, stickers, and a discount on product. You will get entry into comps paid for. There is a small chance you might get a shop deck now and again.

Here's what I got with my first shop sponsor

2 t-shirts and one hoodie per year
a new helmet every 3 years
1 set of wheels per month (I skate pools and bowls, so I traded decks for wheels)
Tons of stickers
Paid entry, food, transportation to comps and demos
Shop discount
Skate backpack
hat
beanie
