If you want to be able to stretch your budget, go with several basic pieces and then lots of fun, girly pieces.
BASICS:
--Jeans: three blue pairs (dark are the most slimming), one gray pair, and two or three fun colored pairs. White are good if you're top-heavy to balance out your body. Figure out which are most flattering on you-- if you're thin, you can wear skinnies. If you're curvier, boot-cut are way more flattering.
--Layering pieces: A few good solid-colored tank tops, some light t-shirts, and one or two long-sleeved t-shirts.
--Nice underwear. :)
FUN STUFF:
--As many cute tops as you can find. Think flattering, girly colors: purple, pink, white, aqua, whatever. Jewel tones look good on everyone while pastels are harder to pull off. Look for a variety... some stripey fall ones, some cozy winter ones, whatever you like. Good stores are Forever 21, H&M, etc.
--Some cute skirts and dresses. Florals are always in and really girly and fun. If you don't want to go overboard, get a floral pattern in a more chill color. A-line cuts are flattering. If you pick up some waist-sized belts, you can belt it to accent your waist. Skirts are adorable; get as many as you can.
--Coats! Get 1+ for fall: a pea coat in a fall color (brown, red, orange, cream) is great. Get 1 or 2+ for winter: a cozy coat from Gap or something like that; fur hoods are adorable on a parka.
--Shoes! Ballet flats are a must... get two or three pairs. Get one pair of high-quality leather riding boots. Some boots like UGGs for winter.
--Accessories: Start by finding or buying one nice piece of jewelry you can wear almost every day. An heirloom is nice... mine is a braided gold bracelet that belonged to my great-grandma. Then buy some cheaper fun stuff from places like Forever 21 that's replaceable as stuff goes in and out of style. Scarves are great. Get a plaid one for fall and winter, and you can get a summery one next spring. Hats and gloves and mittens are adorable, but you could wait a few months to buy those. Get one cute bag. Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, whatever.
--If you want to get some cute pajamas, look for tank tops and cute boy shorts or fuzzy pants... or go classy and get a pretty nightie from Pink.
--Get some sporty clothes from Pink... yoga pants and cute t-shirts or tank tops.
--And anything else that strikes your fancy. :) Look for: trendy patterns, girly embellishments like lace or buttons, girly colors, flattering cuts and colors.
Good luck!(:

My cousin got a customized backpack from www.timbuk2.com.
He has been using it for 2+ years. It is a bit pricy but if you don't mind the price, get him a 125-150$ gift card for www.timbuk2.com. A few clothing brand that they are interested in is 'hollister', 'Abercrombie' and maybe 'aeropostale'.
FOOTWEAR
Try 'www.Nike.com.--- depending on where you live it will show local stores.
Also, try reebok or addidas for shoes. I got a pair of addidas shoes as an early birthday present. ( my birthday is next week as well lol).
OTHER
Headphones are starting to become 'cool' at my school, try getting some from - www.skullcandy.com.
OR you can google search beats by dre.
Hope it helped!
Also, hope he has a happy birthday!
