What Clothes should i wear?
What is cool in middle school and whats not?
Any advice from school to fashion.
Answer
Ok, I have A LOT of advice for your special year :)
1)--CLOTHES/ACCESSORIES--
Try not to follow the crowd when it comes to clothes (don't shop at all hollister, a&f, american eagle), but mix it up. For example, instead of wearing a t-shirt with 'HOLLISTER' across the front, you'll get more compliments if you buy a cute peasant top. BUT--try not to buy too many clothes that are 'in' at the moment, because you'll come off as a total trend-chaser. For instance, instead of buying ALL skinny jeans, get some classic flared jeans (believe it or not--one day skinny jeans WILL be out of style, lol). Also, save your cutest outfit for the second day--everyone else is too wrapped up in finding their classes/old friends in the first day to even notice.
Also, you absolutely have to match your accessories to go with your outfit. If you decide to wear a casual style, wear really cute/glam accessories to dress it up. Or, if you decide to wear a really eye-catching outfit, tone down the jewelry.
Don't forget--painted nails are always cute.
Another thing to do is to bring a purse (put it in your backpack), and put makeup (if you wear it), hair ties, a hair brush (you can get a tiny one), a small mirror, tissues (in case of a 'runny day' lol), mints (no one wants bad breathe), a small snack (maybe a pack of crackers or a slim jim to eat between classes when you forgot to eat breakfast, or just get the munchies), deodarent (maybe a tiny one, when you need it), and a small bottle of lotion--surprisingly, this won't take a lot of room, if you get a medium-sized purse.
2)--BACKPACK/ACCESSORIES--
A backpack is essential for school--so try to get one that fits your personality and/or work load. For instance, if you are planning on carrying a lot of books, go for a bigger bag. Or, if your planning on stashing your books in your locker, go for a trendy messenger bag or cute tote. NEVER--and I mean NEVER--get a rolling backpack. Everyone with a rolling backpack is atomatically thought of as a complete nerd.
3)--ATTITUDE--
Try to be nice to EVERYONE--but don't let people walk all over you. Since your going to be known as a 'little 6th grader' to those in grades above you, try not to act snobby or better than anyone else--or annoying--because 8th graders HATE that, and they WILL tell you if they don't like you. When it comes to teachers, respect them, because they will be with you for an entire school year. DON'T FORGET--don't try to change yourself for others. Don't get swept up in trying to be popular, when there are tons of people who would love to be your friend.
4)--ORGANIZATION/HOMEWORK--
ALWAYS stay organized--it will help you in the long run, and everyone will respect you for that. When it comes to homework, always get it in on time, and when its late, make it up. And NEVER be too shy to ask questions when you need them.
5)--WHAT'S COOL--
--Confidence--hold your head up high, and stand up straight
--Style--don't follow the crowd, being unique (but not crazy) gets you noticed
--Dances--dances are great for getting to know people (and you don't HAVE to dance if you don't want), but skip a few, because if you don't, people will think your schedule is too open.
--Sports--its always great to get interested (and stay fit) in a sport. If your not athletic, go to the games and support your team!
--Clubs--if your not athletic, join a club. Check with the guidance counseler or your teachers (sometimes they have flyers) to see if there are any you would like. Clubs are great ways to spend time with people who have the same interests as you.
6)--WHAT'S LAME--
--Acting like your 'all that'
--Smelling (yes--around the 6th grade, you start to smell, and you don't wanna be labled 'the smelly kid'--so wear deodarent and perfume/body spray)
--Rolling Backpacks
--Interests in anime/comics or manga (don't become known as the 'comic book freak' or 'the japanese weirdo')
--Spending your home life playing video games and/or on the computer and/or watching t.v. all the time.
--Being a teachers pet (just don't suck up to teachers, ok?)
--Wearing the same thing almost every day
--Being shy (c'mon! be confident!)--its only ok if your not one of those people who NEVER talks, because that's a little creepy.
--Following the crowd
--TRYING to be cool--i mean, some jokes are just not funny
--Being too giggly--no one likes that, and 8th graders find it REALLY annoying
--Making fun of people/bullying (now, that's just mean)
--Playing with barbies/dolls
--Wearing the same color every day (ex. some people wear all pink or all black)
--Being a poser (trying to act like something that your not)

People to People Australia trip?
esssss.
I'm about to go on a trip to Australia with this group People to People & I'm wondering if there's anything I should take that was not on the packing list.
Bonus* If you went on the trip, or any trip with people to people, how was your experience?
Answer
Is this the list that you received? Is so, it seems adequate enough.
In your suitcase:
2 pairs of jeans or casual pants
1 pair of khakis (you can bring more than 1 pair if you want, but you have to wear the one when your on the plane. P2P calls these dress slacks, but there just khakis.)
1 dress or 1 skirt
3-4 pairs of walking shorts
5 tops to wear with pants, shorts and skirt (it's best to bring a plain white shirt and maybe one other solid colored shirt and especially bring shirts that you can wear with more than 1 pair of pants or shorts.)
1 dress shirt/tie (required for men)
1 sweatshirt (you definantly want this, nights are cold!)
1 pair of comfortable walking shoes (tennis shoes)
1 pair comfortabls dress shoes (no high heels) (I just took these little brown sandals that went really well with both my dress and skirt, you don't want heels because there to hard to walk in if your walking for hours.)
7 changes of underwear/socks
pajamas
1 pair beach shoes/sandals
swimsuit
beach towel (or just a bathroom towel)
hat (don't need it, i didn't take it)
laundry detergent
sanitary supplies
sunscreen/insect repellent
soap
deodorant
homestay gifts
traveler's check receipts
extra film and batteries for camera (definantly bring these things because I know kids that didn't and ran out of batteries in their camera and couldn't take pictures for a couple of days until they found new batteries and film is also more expensive overseas. I shot about 16-18 rolls of film per trip.)
mini sewing kit
alarm clock (absolutely necessary! sometimes the hotel doesn't remember to give you your wake up call)
voltage/plug adaptors
In carry-on bag:
everything valuable
light jacket (like a windbreaker)
camera & film (best to have your film in your backpack so that you can keep track of it. i put all of mine in a big ziplock bag and just put the bag in my backpack.)
stationary/postcards/envelopes (you don't really need to take these, you can buy postcards after you get in the country)
small address book
personal journal and pen (take 2 or 3 pens in case one dies on you)
tissue packet (those little kleenex ones)
shaving kit (men)
cosmetics (women)
toothbrush & toothpaste (you'll want these in your backpack on the long flight)
toiletries/shampoo/conditioner/lotion
personal medicines
1 change of clothing (if you read my australia journal you'll find out why this is so very important)

In your purse or waistpack:
traveler's checks/cash in small bills/credit card
wallet/ID
luggage key
sunglasses
mini-flashlight
comb/brush & small mirror
